This tour starts by picking you up from your hotel starting at 7 am. If it seems crazy to get up so early on your vacation, you'll thank me for it later. Early in the morning you can avoid the crowds and see more wildlife in more comfortable temperatures. We will begin our tour of fauna and flora in a boat in the waters of the canal and Gatun Lake. We'll travel along the canal and get an up-close view of passing ships as well as the abundant wildlife on its banks. We will visit the famous monkey islands where we can see capuchins, howler monkeys, and titis monkeys. Once we're done with our canal ride and lake ride (about 90 minutes), we'll head 30 minutes north to the Caribbean coast of Panama. We will visit San Lorenzo National Park where we will have a freshly prepared outdoor lunch and then visit Fort San Lorenzo, a 400 year old Spanish fort on a cliff overlooking the Caribbean. The next stop will be a visit to the Agua Clara Locks Visitor Center to see the locks at work up close. The Agua Clara Visitor Center allows you to observe the expanded canal and transiting ships from a distance and learn first-hand about the various operations of the Panama Canal, the history of its construction, its participation in world markets, and the importance of its basin. An observation deck lets you watch ships pass through the Agua Clara locks on their way to the Pacific or Atlantic. Once we finish up at the locks we will return to Panama City for drop off at your hotel.
